Scholarship Details

What is the extent of the Achievers Scholarships? What expenses do they cover?
Maximum scholarship amounts will be established annually for students attending public community colleges, public four-year and independent institutions. Scholarships are expected to average approximately $5,000 per year per student, or $20,000 for a baccalaureate program. Scholarships will be awarded up to five years of full-time undergraduate study, subject to a recipient's continued eligibility. The Achievers Scholarship is a "last dollar" award, which will not replace or reduce other federal, state, institutional, or private grants for which the student may qualify. These scholarships will help meet remaining unmet needs and will reduce or eliminate the need for students to assume loan debt.

Will mentors be available to all Achievers Scholarship recipients?
Yes! The DC CSF staff will work with each student to obtain both a local Hometown Mentor and a college mentor. Hometown Mentors will meet and work with students to provide support on the college selection, admission and financial aid processes, as well as to provide other help as needed to the student.

In addition, for the first two years of college, a college mentor will assist each student with the adjustment to college life, and assist with academic and personal issues when help is needed.

Do students need to be enrolled in college programs of study leading to a baccalaureate degrees?
Yes! Note though that if students first enroll in community or technical colleges before transferring to eligible four-year colleges, they must enroll in approved programs that will transfer with junior status to the baccalaureate degree programs at eligible colleges.
