Gap Analysis
Background
Through
the Improve Post-Secondary Transitions workgroup a Gap Analysis of College Access
Services for DC public school students was conducted to identify existing services
and needs and to maximize the level of services and efficiencies to ensure that
more DC public school students succeed in high school and college.
Gap
Analysis of College Access Services for DC students
The
Gap Analysis identified what services that are being provided by our participating
college access providers, which schools are being served by which organization,
what grade levels of students are being supported, and the frequency and intensity
of the services. The purpose of the gap analysis was to understand current service
levels to allow the development of a strategy to increase the comprehensiveness
and quantity of services that students receive from college access providers.
In order to conduct this analysis, we compared the services that are available
to best practice in academic support for college preparation of secondary students
and what is currently provided. Early indicators point to gaps in academic support
and tutoring at the middle school, 9th and 10th grade levels, mentoring at the
middle school, 9th and 10th grade levels, adequate summer academic enrichment/preparation
programming, and scholarship opportunities for students.
